Young artists excel in designing Ward Security birthday card

Students from Cliffe Woods Primary School in Rochester have impressed security company Ward Security with the quality of their art following a competition to design a birthday card that the company will use for employees throughout 2017.

Over 340 students took part in the competition, with the standards so high that choosing an eventual winning design and runner-up designs presented a challenge.

The winning design was created by Olivia Garthwaite (aged 8), with Grace Robbins (10) and Madison Little (11) receiving runner-up prizes from Ward Security during school assembly. All of the winners received framed prints of their designs, along with Waterstones vouchers. The school was also presented with Waterstones vouchers.

“The birthday card competition is something we do every year,” explained managing director Kevin Ward. “We love working with local schools and the annual competition winner is usually hard to decide, but this year it was particularly difficult. All of the designs were of a very high standard and the children clearly put a great deal of effort in.

“We looked at all of the designs and took twelve back to our head office where our staff voted on the winners. The winning design will be used throughout 2017 and will be sent to all of our 800 staff nationwide when they have a birthday.”

“The students really enjoyed taking part in the competition,” added Head Teacher Tim Muggeridge. “We have some very talented students at Cliffe Woods Primary School, and it was great to give them a challenge where they knew their work could be used to bring happiness throughout the rest of the year. I’m delighted for Olivia, Grace and Madison, but equally proud of all of our other students who took part.”
