With the UK heatwave set to continue it is crucial we think carefully about our dog welfare.  Dogs suffer in the heat just like we do and are susceptible to heatstroke and deydration.

So here are just a few of our tips to help you keep your dog safe this summer.

  • Make sure you have plenty of water – dogs dehydrate in the heat just like we do so take water and a bowl whenever you go out.
  • Think ahead –  will there be somewhere cool for your dog to lie down if you are off for a day trip to the beach, can you take a shade with you or find a spot with some ground cover.
  • Never leave your dog unattended in the car – do not think having the window cracked open is good enough it is really not.  Temperatures inside a car can rise really quickly even on a cloudy day.  Just don’t leave the dog inside.
  • Watch it’s paws – dog pads can get burnt as easily as your feet.  So if the pavement is too hot for you to stand on then it is likely to be too hot for your dogs paws too.
  • Walk your dog early or later in the day when it is cooler.
  • Keep them inside – in the heat of the day find some shade or keep them indoors where it is cooler.

Enjoy the sun!
